Firstly, what is Lucuma? its a super nutritious, native fruit of Peru in South America. The fruit itself has been a symbol of fertility to the Incas, as it resembles a womens womb. Much like the avocado, so many of its nutrients will help heal and repair the female reproductive organs.
Physically, if you could imagine a mango and an avocado ‘did it’, Lucuma would be the result. Although its tastes alot like a creamy sweet potato, drizzled with maple syrup. Lucuma powder is a low GI sweetener, so its often used in baking recipes or used in vegan nice-cream recipes- my favourite.
I personally use Lucuma Powder to make super food fudge bites, smoothie bowls and nice-cream.
Lucuma is high in protein, iron, vitamin b1,2 and 3 also C, calcium, and zinc. Also high in antioxidants, Lucuma has lots of antibiotic, antimicrobial and anti fungal properties.
Lucuma also promotes healthy supple soft skin, its high in beta carotene which is vital for radiant, beautiful skin. Its most commonly used to visibly improve skin tone, fine lines and wrinkles. Which can also help with anti-inflammation, anti-aging and skin repair.
Being so high on the fibre rich foods list, it can help improve your digestive system and keep you more regular. Use it!
If you’re not sold on it yet, come to the markets and get some of my lucuma fudge bites! They are delicious!
