What is Mesquite?
Mesquite is a high protein powder used for desserts and commonly a stable in most raw food kitchens. It has beautiful caramel and nutty taste with a fine flour like consistency, very commonly used and known as a Superfood.
As a Superfood it contains high quantities of calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron, and zinc. Which are all amazing minerals for vegans in particular or any individual person who is lacking, good quality minerals in their life. Mesquite is also rich in the amino acid lysine. It has a low GI of 25 which helps maintain stable blood sugar levels.
Mesquite flour has a beautifully sweet, caramel flavour with a touch of nuttiness.
I use Mesquite any time I am trying to make a gooey caramel, as the flavour is to die for.
In its original form, it is a long thin seed pod that grows on a Mesquite tree, commonly found in hotter Central & South American climates. Traditionally ground into a fine powder and consumed.
